Platinized anode for water electrolysis
1. Working principle: ionized water generator makes use of the principle of water electrolysis and the selective transmission of cation exchange membrane to cation. Under the action of DC electric field, cation exchange membrane is added between positive and negative electrodes to form a two-cell electrolytic cell. When the water flow passes through the cathode of the electrolytic cell, the concentration of hydroxide ion is high, and hydrogen is released at the same time, which makes the water slightly basic. Since the electrode reaction is a reduction reaction and the solution system is in a reduced state, the REDOX potential (ORP) of the obtained basic ionized water is negative. At the anode, hydrogen ions with high concentration are generated, releasing oxygen. At the same time, the water contains a small amount of chlorine, which loses electrons and generates chlorine gas, thus making the water rich in hydrogen ions and a small amount of chlorine. The electrode reaction is oxidation reaction, the acid ionized water is in oxidation state, and the REDOX potential (ORP) is positive.

Ionic water industry standard is alkaline reducing water pH value 7.5-10, ORP≤-250mV, the higher the pH value in the standard range, the better, the lower the ORP, the stronger the reducibility, the better the water quality. Acidic reducing water pH value is 2.5-6.5, ORP≥300mV, the lower the pH value in the standard range, the better, the higher the ORP, the stronger the reducibility, the better the water quality. It can be seen from the table that the water quality of ionic water produced by the developed Pt/Ti electrode fully conforms to the industrial standard of ionic water, and the water quality performance of the ionic water produced by the Pt/Ti electrode is better than that produced by the titan-based MMO electrode.



4.Platinum is widely used in electroplating, electrolytic synthesis, electrochemical treatment of wastewater and fuel cells, etc. Many important electrochemical industry fields, such as hydrogen peroxide, ammonium persulfate, water electrolysis can be used as anode materials.Platinum electrodes are characterized by strong corrosion resistance, The main problems of this process are large waste of electroplating solution, high cost, and poor binding force of plating platinum layer.

Platinized Anode For Water Electrolysis usually use tantalum or tungsten as the substrate, and a layer of platinum is plated on its surface. The platinum-plated anodes developed in the early stage were mostly platinum-plated tantalum, which was expensive and relatively low in cost performance, but had excellent conductivity and extremely high breakdown voltage.
Then, platinum-plated titanium gradually emerged. As an active metal, titanium is easily passivated. When used in a chlorine-containing solution, a titanium oxide anodic oxide film will form on the anode surface. Within a certain voltage range, the film thickness continues to increase. If the film is partially broken down, pitting will occur. The oxide film has an extremely high resistivity and is not suitable as an auxiliary anode material. However, after the platinum layer is plated, the exposed titanium layer is protected by an insulating oxide, which effectively avoids the occurrence of pitting.
