    Products Description

    PEM electrolysis water hydrogen production technology refers to a water electrolysis hydrogen production technology that uses a proton exchange membrane as a solid electrolyte and pure water as a raw material for electrolyzing water to produce hydrogen.

     

    PEM water electrolysis to produce hydrogen is divided into four steps:
    ① Water (2H2O) undergoes a hydrolysis reaction on the positive electrode, and splits into protons (4H+), electrons (4e-) and gaseous oxygen (O2) under the action of the electric field and catalyst;
    ②4H+ passes through the solid PEM containing sulfonic acid functional groups and reaches the negative electrode under the action of the electric field; ③4e- electrons are transferred from the positive electrode to the negative electrode through the external circuit;
    ④The 4H+ that reaches the negative electrode gets 4e- to generate 2H2. PEM electrolysis water hydrogen production equipment consists of PEM electrolyzer and auxiliary system BOP.

     

     

    Compared with ALK electrolyzers, PEM electrolyzers have the advantages of large current density, high hydrogen purity, and fast response speed, and are more suitable for integration with wind and solar energy storage technology. However, since PEM electrolyzers need to operate in a strong acid and highly oxidizing working environment, PEM electrolyzers are more dependent on precious metal materials such as iridium, platinum, and titanium, resulting in high cost of current PEM electrolyzer equipment.

    There are three markings on the electrolyzer:
    H2O In: represents the water inlet of pure water, connected to the outlet of the pure water tank.
    H2 Out: represents the hydrogen outlet, connected to the hydrogen pipe.
    O2 Out: represents the oxygen outlet and is also the water return port. The water coming out of the oxygen port is either connected to the soda-water separator, and the water from the soda-water separator returns to the water tank; or it is directly connected to the water tank.

    PEM electrolyzer technical requirements

    1. The electrolytic cell should be used strictly in accordance with pure water/deionized water standards, that is, TDS<5ppm. Water quality will directly determine the service life of the electrolyzer, so ion exchange resin must be added inside the machine to ensure that the water quality reaches the standard. It is best to place the resin filter element between the water outlet of the pure water tank and the water inlet of the electrolyzer.
    2. It is recommended that the starting temperature should not be lower than 15°C. Long-term low-temperature starting will cause certain damage to the membrane electrode of the electrolyzer.
    Suggested Solution:
    1) Control the power supply current output through the control board. For example, when the power supply is first started, the output current (such as 2A-4A-6A-10A) gradually increases, and finally stabilizes at the electrolyzer operating current of 13A;
    2) Add a heating module between the water tank or the water outlet of the water tank and the water inlet of the electrolyzer (considering the low temperature in northern winter and even freezing), ensure that the temperature of the water entering the electrolyzer is not lower than 15oC. After a few minutes of continuous circulation, wait until the water tank When the temperature is greater than or equal to 15oC, the heating module stops heating.
    3. It is strictly forbidden to operate the electrolyzer without water. Lack of water will cause dry burning damage to the electrolyzer.
    4. The constant current power supply used by Party A must match the voltage and current parameters of Party B's electrolyzer. Mismatching of power supply parameters will affect and damage the performance of the electrolyzer.
    5. Do not connect the positive and negative poles of the electrolytic cell reversely. Reverse connection will cause the electrolytic cell to burn out.
    6. If a circulating pump is not installed in the waterway, the vertical distance between the water outlet at the bottom of the water tank and the water inlet of the electrolytic tank shall not be less than 15 cm. If a diaphragm pump is installed as a circulating water pump, on the premise of ensuring smooth water flow, install the water pump and There is no height requirement.

    PEM Electrolyzer Precautions 

    1. The pipeline connection must be stable and reliable, with appropriate temperature resistance, pressure resistance, oxidation resistance, and hydrolysis resistance to prevent water or gas leakage caused by aging or falling off. Materials in contact with water must be corrosion-resistant, oxidation-resistant, and high-temperature resistant. It is recommended to use Teflon materials as structural parts or pipelines. If metal materials must be used, pure titanium is recommended.
    2. Pay attention to sufficient space around the equipment and appropriate flow channel design to ensure normal air flow to achieve good heat dissipation.
    3. It is recommended that the water tank should not be less than 0.5L. The water tank needs to be equipped with a liquid level control device (minimum liquid level and maximum liquid level). The minimum liquid level of the water tank should not be less than 0.2L.
    4. Use sufficiently safe electrical components and adopt appropriate connection techniques to reduce inappropriate overheating. The connecting wire between the power supply and the electrolytic tank must be fastened and reliable, otherwise there will be safety hazards. The positive and negative wires of the power supply and the positive and negative terminals on the electrolytic tank must be tightened, otherwise a large amount of heat will be generated, posing safety risks.
    5. It is necessary to use a constant current power supply. The voltage of the constant current power supply is 3.5-5V and the output current is 13A. The selection of constant current power supply is very important. It is recommended to use the power supply that we have tested. The power supply that has not been tested by us may not meet the usage standards and will have a direct impact on the performance and service life of the electrolyzer.
    6. Storage requirements
    1) It is strictly forbidden to remove the plug from the electrolytic tank and store it. This will cause water shortage and dryness inside the electrolytic tank, affecting the performance of the electrolytic tank;
    2) Electrolytic cell storage date: If the electrolytic cell is stored for a long time and is not used for more than 30 days, it is recommended to unplug the electrolytic cell water inlet and outlet plugs, lay the electrolytic cell flat, and inject pure water. Use a clean syringe to Inject the water inlet until oxygen flows out. It is recommended that the electrolyzer should be installed within 30 days starting from the factory date. It is recommended that the machine should not be kept in stock for more than 60 days after installation. If the machine is kept in stock for too long, the proton membrane inside the electrolyzer will dry out and affect the performance of the electrolyzer; The electrolytic cell inside the machine needs to be water-containing. Do not drain the water inside the electrolytic cell to prevent the electrolytic cell from drying out and affecting performance. If you do not store or use electrolyzers in accordance with the above storage requirements, our company has the right to dispose of the damaged electrolyzers without liability.
