Molybdenum wire mainly refers to a consumable made of precious metals such as molybdenum that moves continuously with a high-voltage electric field during wire cutting to cut workpieces. The thin metal wire that moves continuously during wire cutting machine tool machining of workpieces is called electrode wire (also known as electrode), which can perform pulse spark discharge erosion on workpieces and cut metal into shape.
Wire EDM, also known as wire electrical discharge machining, is an electrical discharge machining process that uses moving, fine metal wires as electrodes to perform pulsed spark discharges on the workpiece and cut it into shape. During wire EDM, the metal wire electrodes deliver pulsed spark discharges to the workpiece, generating instantaneous, localized high temperatures to remove material through electrolytic erosion. This process does not generate macroscopic mechanical cutting forces and is unaffected by the physical and mechanical properties of the material. It can precisely machine various difficult-to-machine materials with low elastic modulus, high yield strength ratio, and high hardness, or parts with unusual shapes or small angles that are difficult to machine using conventional machining processes.

Production method
wire cut molybdenum wire
1) Preparation of raw materials: Solid molybdenum dioxide (MoO2), 0.005% to 0.2% solid solution metal elements (at least one or more selected from titanium, zirconium, cobalt, tungsten, nickel, magnesium, hafnium, and rhenium), 0.05% to 0.45% rare earth oxides (at least one or more selected from lanthanum oxide, cerium oxide, yttrium oxide, and neodymium oxide).
2) At least one liquid compound (titanium, zirconium, cobalt, tungsten, nickel, magnesium, hafnium compound) is added to solid molybdenum dioxide.
3) One liquid compound (lanthanum, yttrium, cerium, neodymium compound) is added to solid molybdenum dioxide, mixed thoroughly, and then reduced with hydrogen to obtain molybdenum powder containing solid-solution metal elements and rare earth oxides.
4) The molybdenum powder obtained in step 3) is pressed into molybdenum bars by isostatic pressing, and then sintered in an intermediate frequency furnace. The sintered molybdenum bars are rolled into molybdenum wire rods with a diameter of about 6-8mm by a rolling mill at a rolling temperature of 1200-1400 ℃.
5) The molybdenum wire rod can be processed to a diameter by using a rotary hammer in series, followed by hot drawing, annealing, and cold drawing to produce wire cut molybdenum wire with a tensile strength between 1900 and 2300 MPa.
