In terms of physical and chemical properties, yttrium tungsten electrode has the characteristics of pure tungsten electrode and yttrium oxide. It is mainly manifested in high melting point, high elastic modulus, strong electron emission ability, good arc starting performance, high arc column stability, low burning loss rate, good conductivity and heat conductivity, corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance. It is worth mentioning that the main reason for doping some yttrium oxide with low electron escape work into pure tungsten electrode is that it can improve the recrystallization temperature of the product and activate electron emission, thus making up for the shortcomings of low emission efficiency and easy fracture of pure tungsten electrode.
In terms of production process, the manufacturing steps of yttrium tungsten electrode are as follows: firstly, yttrium nitrate aqueous solution is uniformly mixed into ammonium paratungstate or tungsten trioxide in the form of spray doping, then heated and dried to make tungsten yttrium coating powder, then the tungsten yttrium coating powder is reduced twice to get tungsten yttrium powder, then the tungsten yttrium powder is pressed and sintered at high temperature to make tungsten yttrium green strips, and finally the green strips are forged to make the required products.
Yttrium tungsten electrode has long and thin arc beam and large degree of compression under working conditions, especially under medium and high current working conditions, with maximum penetration. It is found that this kind of electrode can only be limited to low current welding. Under high current load, the electrode burns seriously and the stability of electron emission is poor.
