Sodium chloride or common salt dissolved into the water passes through the cell. A small amount of electric current is made to flow into a parallel set of titanium plates inside the cell. These plates, covered with a metal called iridium, separate the sodium chloride molecules through electrolysis and produce hypochlorous acid, which is the same thing produced in a non-saltwater pool when chlorine (in the form of tablets, granular, or liquid) is added to water, keeping the pool sanitized.

Chlorinator systems are designed for disinfection of drinking- and swimming pool water, odor control of slime and marine growths in e.g. cooling water towers, circulating water and service water systems. It can also be found on board ships, in campers, in sport centers and health care facilities.


The Electrolytic Cell has two precious metal oxide coated titanium anode plates separated by insulators. A reversing DC voltage is applied to the cell and chlorine gas is produced without any calcium build up on the plates. These cells require no maintenance and have a clear cell case to enable the chlorine manufacture to be visible while operating.
