Misunderstanding of Titanium Screws

Jul 15, 2021

Many customers will ask when choosing the type of screw raw materials: Is titanium very strong? Will the titanium screws break easily?

In fact, this is a misunderstanding that everyone has about titanium screws. Titanium has higher specific strength rather than higher strength. The specific strength is the ratio of the tensile strength to the density of the material. The density of titanium is 4.5g/cm³, and the tensile strength is 539MPa. We take 304 stainless steel for comparison, the density is 7.93g/cm³, and the tensile strength is ≥515MPa. The tensile strength is about the same, but the density of titanium is almost half the density of stainless steel, no wonder the specific strength of titanium is much larger.

In fact, the strength of titanium is not as high as people think, and it is almost the same as ordinary steel, but the strength of titanium alloys will be greater. It is precisely because of the high strength and low density of titanium alloys that titanium alloys are widely used in places where strength and weight requirements are combined, such as aerospace industry.

And titanium has plasticity. The purer the titanium, the greater the plasticity. The elongation of high-purity titanium can reach 50-60%, and the reduction of area can reach 70-80%. JM-TITANIUM's titanium screws are all made of pure titanium, so they have good plasticity and ductility and are not easy to break.

Titanium screws not only have the characteristics of high specific strength, good ductility, and large plasticity, but also have the characteristics of superconductivity and corrosion resistance, which are suitable for use in some special environments.
