In-depth analysis of titanium metal rolling process and performance

Titanium metal materials have shown broad application prospects in many fields such as aerospace, biomedicine, and chemical industry due to their remarkable characteristics such as high specific strength, high yield strength ratio, high deformation resistance, and good process plasticity. However, there are still deficiencies in the current research on the hot rolling process of small-diameter titanium tubes, as well as the heat treatment and microstructure analysis of rolled bars. The following will analyze the rolling process and performance of titanium metal materials in detail from the aspects of rolling temperature, microstructure of rolled products, and the relationship between rolling process and performance.

1. Optimization of rolling temperature and strain rate
From the comprehensive perspective of reducing deformation resistance, improving formability and ensuring the final rolling structure performance, the appropriate rolling temperature of titanium tube is determined to be 950°C. This temperature is slightly lower than the phase transition temperature of titanium alloy. Rolling at this temperature can effectively balance the deformation resistance and plastic deformation capacity of the material. On the one hand, the appropriate temperature can reduce the deformation resistance of the material, make the rolling process smoother, reduce equipment energy consumption and roll wear; on the other hand, it can ensure that the material maintains good plasticity during the rolling process, which is conducive to obtaining ideal organizational morphology and performance. At the same time, the appropriate strain rate is also a key factor affecting the rolling effect. After research and practical verification, the optimal strain rate is 1s⁻¹. At this strain rate, the work hardening caused by strain and strain rate during deformation is small, and the material can give full play to its plasticity, thereby obtaining a uniform structure and good mechanical properties. Reasonable strain rate helps to control the dynamic recrystallization process of the material, refine the grains, and improve the strength and toughness of the material.

2. Microstructure characteristics of hot-rolled products of three-roll Y-type rolling mill
The three-roll Y-type rolling mill was used for hot rolling to successfully obtain medium-sized bars with diameters of 12mm and 6mm. The microstructures of these two different specifications of pipes were observed and analyzed, and it was found that there were obvious differences in their organizational characteristics. For the medium 12mm pipe, its microstructure showed an equiaxed primary phase pipe transformation structure with a grain diameter of about 3-10μm. This equiaxed structure has good isotropy and can provide relatively uniform mechanical properties in different directions. The structure of the medium 6mm pipe is composed of a small amount of equiaxed primary α phase, thin strip α phase and β transformation structure, and the grain size is less than 1μm. By comparison, it can be seen that with the increase of cumulative deformation, the grain size decreases significantly. This is because during the rolling process, the larger deformation promotes the dynamic recrystallization of the material and refines the grains. Grain refinement can not only improve the strength of the material, but also improve its plasticity and toughness, and further improve the comprehensive performance of the material.

3. Conformity verification of rolling process and product performance
After comprehensive testing and analysis of the organization and mechanical properties of the hot-rolled titanium tube on the three-roll Y-type rolling mill, the results show that its organization and mechanical properties meet the technical requirements. This fully proves that the rolling equipment, rolling process parameters and heat treatment system used in the test are scientific and reasonable, and can produce titanium tube products with stable quality and excellent performance. This research result provides a solid technical basis for further promoting the industrial production of titanium metal materials, which will help improve production efficiency, reduce production costs, and promote the widespread application of titanium metal materials in more fields.

In summary, through in-depth research on the rolling process and performance of titanium metal materials, we have identified the appropriate rolling temperature and strain rate, mastered the microstructural characteristics of pipes of different specifications, and verified the conformity of the rolling process with product performance. These research results are of great significance for optimizing the rolling process of titanium metal materials and improving product quality and performance, and will inject new impetus into the development of the titanium metal materials industry.
