Tungsten needles are tungsten electrodes made of materials with high melting point, corrosion resistance, high density, good thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity. An important condition for high-quality argon arc and plasma welding is grinding tungsten needles. We can produce sharpened tungsten needles of various specifications, with grinding cones and angles to ensure the outer dimensions of tungsten electrodes. The types of sharpening points are: one end sharpening , or sharpened at both ends.

1. Tungsten needle diameters are 0.2mm, 0.5mm, 1.0mm, 1.5mm, 1.6mm, 2.0mm, 2.4mm, 3.2mm, 4.0mm, 4.8mm, 6.0mm.
2. Tungsten needle length: ≥9mm (length <20mm, only one end can be used for sharpening). Sharpening angle: 0-70°.
3. Tungsten content: W ≥ 99.96% and W ≥ 99.98%.
4. Application: used for microbeam plasma arc welding of silver and platinum electronic devices, pulsed microbeam plasma arc welding of stainless steel thermos shells, etc.
Tungsten needles are manufactured from carbonyl tungsten vapor under glow discharge conditions. The needle growth phenomenon is in the range of 1500°K in the chamber temperature of the tungsten substrate, but the morphology and crystalline state of the needles produced at higher or lower than ~1100°K are different. At lower temperatures, the agglomerated product of tungsten particles is shaped like a branch, and at higher temperatures, like a whisker.
Types
There are two types of tungsten needles. According to their shapes, tungsten needles can be divided into round tungsten needles and pointed tipes tungsten needles.
Round tungsten needles are used for TIG welding. They are made by adding about 0.3%-5% rare earth elements such as cerium, thorium, lanthanum, zirconium, yttrium, etc. into the tungsten matrix through powder metallurgy, and then processed by pressure. The diameter ranges from 0.25 to 6.4mm, the standard length ranges from 75 to 600, and the commonly used specifications are diameters of 1.0, 1.6, 2.4 and 3.2.
Tungsten needles with pointed tips are used for instrument probes and for engraving metal surfaces.
