    Platinum Plated Titanium Anode, a precious metal known for its excellent corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity and catalytic activity, is an ideal electrode material. However, pure platinum has low mechanical strength, is easily deformed, and is expensive, which makes it uneconomical for industrial applications. To overcome these shortcomings, engineers have developed a technology to coat platinum on a titanium substrate to create a platinum-coated titanium electrode.

    Surface treatment of titanium plate: Clean and polish the surface of titanium plate.

    Preparation of anode coating: Mix platinum particles and conductive powder together and then dry them at high temperature.

    Application of coating: Apply the coating to the titanium plate by brushing.

    High temperature firing: the platinum-coated anode is fired in a high temperature furnace to make it better fit with the titanium plate.

    Electrochemical treatment: The titanium anode is electrolytically treated to increase its corrosion resistance and increase its service life.

    There are also several things to note when Platinum Plated Titanium Anode materials:

    1. The purity of the material must be guaranteed. Usually GR1 is the best, and GR2 is barely acceptable. The high impurity content is one of the reasons for poor coating adhesion. The titanium anode is also prone to oxidation and thinning during use.

    2. Titanium materials are best roughened before plating. The commonly used methods are sandblasting or wire drawing. Increase the plating area and effectively improve adhesion.

    3. Necessary heat treatment; if your product is not used to produce hydrogen by electrolysis of water, but is used in other structural parts, it has higher requirements for adhesion. High-temperature sintering of 650 degrees/30 minutes or more helps improve adhesion.

    Hydrogen production by water electrolysis is an important means to achieve industrial and cheap preparation of H2, and can produce products with a purity of 99% to 99.9%. Every year, my country's electricity consumption for hydrogen production by water electrolysis reaches more than (1.5×107) kW·h. The performance of the electrode largely determines the cell voltage and energy consumption of water electrolysis, and directly affects the cost.  Since the conductivity of water is very low, an aqueous solution with electrolyte added (concentration of about 15%) is used. When current passes between electrodes at a certain voltage, hydrogen is generated at the cathode and oxygen is generated at the anode, thereby achieving water electrolysis.

    (1) Can platinum be plated on titanium alloy?
    Platinum can be plated directly. In order to meet the use of electrolyzed water, only platinum Pt can be plated.
    The combination of plating layers is not like other metal materials. Other metals must be plated first as a base.
    Platinum can only be plated directly on titanium without adding any other plating layers. Otherwise, the process will not work. In addition, the active oxygen released by the anode during use can easily corrode the middle plating layer, causing the outer platinum plating layer to peel off and the plating layer to fail.
    (2) Vacuum plating or electroplating?
    Electroplating of platinum uses electroplating instead of vacuum plating.
    1 The thickness of the coating is controllable, and the thickness range is 0.15-3um;
    2 There is no restriction on the structure of the titanium anode. The product can be designed into different structures and shapes according to its own needs, and water plating can adapt to it;
    3 The coating is fine and smooth. The traditional vacuum sputtering or brush sintering process has a rough coating and it is difficult to control the thickness cost. Especially for vacuum sputtering, the coating is extremely thin and has poor adhesion.
