Why do tantalum tubes turn white at high temperatures?

The surface of the tantalum tube itself is a gray color. The color of the tantalum tube surface changes from gray or golden yellow to white because after being exposed to a high temperature environment for a period of time, the surface begins to oxidize and form tantalum oxide, namely Ta2O5. In a higher temperature environment, the oxide layer on the surface of the tantalum tube will continue to thicken and form other compounds, which will cause the surface color to change.
