How to color titanium Damascus?

The coloring of titanium damask (usually referring to titanium products with damask patterns) mainly relies on surface treatment technology, especially anodizing, which is an effective method to form an oxide film on the surface of titanium metal and give it color.
1. Pretreatment
Cleaning: First, the titanium damask needs to be thoroughly cleaned to remove oil, dust and impurities on the surface. This usually includes wiping or soaking with solvents or detergents, and multiple water washings.
Pickling: Subsequently, pickling treatment is carried out, using a dilute acid solution (such as a mixture of hydrofluoric acid and hydrogen peroxide) to remove oxides and other impurities on the surface, and may produce specific texture effects (such as pear skin patterns) to prepare for subsequent coloring.
2. Anodizing
Set up an electrolytic cell: The cleaned titanium damask is used as the anode, and the aluminum plate is usually used as the cathode, and placed in an electrolytic cell containing an electrolyte of appropriate concentration. The commonly used electrolyte is an aqueous solution of phosphoric acid.
Voltage treatment: A constant voltage is applied in the electrolytic cell to cause an anodic oxidation reaction on the surface of the titanium damask. During this process, titanium combines with oxygen in the electrolyte to form a dense oxide film on the surface.
Color formation: The color of the oxide film depends on its thickness, which is controlled by the electrolysis voltage and time. By adjusting the voltage and time, different colors can be obtained, such as golden, brown, blue, purple, green, etc. This color change is caused by the interference of the reflected light on the surface of the oxide film with the internal reflected light at the oxide film-titanium interface.
3. Post-treatment
Cleaning and drying: After coloring is completed, the titanium damask is removed from the electrolytic cell, cleaned to remove the residual electrolyte, and dried.
Protective treatment: In order to enhance the durability and aesthetics of the oxide film, it may be necessary to seal the pores or apply a transparent protective film.
