    Products Description

    Titanium electrode is widely used in the chlor-alkali industry for production of chlorine and caustic soda. In this application, the anode is immersed in an electrolyte solution with a voltage applied across it. The anode is often made in the form of a mesh or ribbon and is composed of an inert material, titanium. Current passes through the anode, interacting with the electrolyte and causing active chemical reactions at the anode surface. These reactions produce chlorine and caustic soda. Titanium anode has many advantages-it is corrosion-resistant, self-repairing and offers low cost of ownership.

     

    Titanium is widely used in the chlor-alkali industry. First, it has excellent corrosion resistance to wet chlorine and sodium chloride solutions. Second, its electrochemical properties are suitable for use as anode materials. The United States began to manufacture chlor-alkali equipment as early as the 1960s, and this application has developed rapidly, with a compound annual growth rate of 8%. In 2021, around 50% of the world's chlorine production uses anodes coated with ruthenium-titanium. In the production of chlorine in Russia, more than 80% of the equipment and pipelines are made of titanium. The entire chlor-alkali industry, the production of chlorine and other oxides, toxic chemicals, chloramines and bleaching powders, accounts for more than 60% of the chemical sector's use of titanium equipment. In the chlor-alkali industry, Japan uses titanium anodes, which are the most widely used titanium products in Japan. Since the early 1980s, China's chlor-alkali industry has used titanium anodes and achieved good economic results.

    Caustic soda is produced by electrolysis of salt water solution, chlorine gas is produced at the anode, and hydrogen and caustic soda are produced by the cathode reaction. The use of RuTi coated electrodes in chlor-alkali production has the advantages of small loss, compared with graphite electrodes, the chlorine evolution potential is greatly reduced, and the size and shape are stable. Compared with graphite electrodes, under the same electrolysis environment, the product quality is high, the energy consumption is low, and the purity of chlorine gas is high.

    Titanium electrodes double the production capacity compared to graphite anode electrolyzers. The current density of graphite electrodes is mostly 1100A/m2, and the current density of titanium anodes can reach >2000A/m2; the anode has a long service life. Graphite anodes can only be used for about 0.5 years, while titanium anodes can be used for more than 4 years; electricity saving is about 15%, and steam saving is about 5%. The product quality is good, the caustic soda produced by the graphite anode tank is reddish purple, but the caustic soda produced by the titanium anode tank is colorless, with less organic impurities; the asbestos diaphragm has a long life. The graphite anode tank diaphragm can only be used for about 180 days, while the titanium anode tank diaphragm has a long service life because it is not blocked by graphite particles.
