Why is a titanium anode used in copper plating?
The copper plating solution contains copper ions and other additives. The copper ions in the electrolyte are reduced to the cathode surface under the action of an external electric field and react with the surface of the electrode to generate copper atoms. Therefore, the titanium anode can act as a cathode to absorb copper ions and deposit copper atoms on the surface, so the titanium anode can be used for copper plating.

 

The main principle of the reaction between the titanium anode and copper ions is the reduction reaction of the cathode and the oxidation reaction of the anode during the electrolysis process. The copper ions accept electrons on the cathode surface and combine with the hydrogen ions in the water to generate hydrogen, and then deposit as copper atoms on the cathode. The reaction formula is as follows:

Cu2+ + 2e- -> Cu

2H+ + 2e- -> H2

In this reaction process, the titanium anode acts as a cathode and is connected to the external negative electrode, thereby absorbing and reducing copper ions. At the same time, the surface of the titanium anode will not react with copper ions or other additives, and has good corrosion resistance and chemical stability.

The titanium anode basket used for copper plating is composed of multiple layers of special mixed precious metal oxides sintered on a titanium substrate. It is resistant to high current density impact and strong acid corrosion. It can operate stably and for a long time at a current density of 5000A/square meter.
