    As an electrode material, platinum has the characteristics of strong corrosion resistance, high electrocatalytic activity, high oxygen evolution potential and low hydrogen evolution potential. However, the scarcity and high price of platinum restrict the application of pure platinum electrode in electrochemical industry. Platinum titanium anode is a special electrode with platinum plating (coating) layer prepared by special process using titanium materials with high specific strength, good thermal stability, strong corrosion resistance and excellent self passivation ability as the base material. The platinum titanium anode technology obtained in this way has the performance of pure platinum electrode and can greatly reduce the cost, so it is widely used in the electrochemical field.


    Platinum plated anode (platinum coated anode): titanium is the base material. The surface is plated with precious metal platinum, the coating thickness is generally 1-5um, and the mesh size of platinum titanium mesh is generally 12.7 x 4.5mm or 6 x 3mm.

    As an anode material, platinum coated titanium electrode has four outstanding characteristics:


    1. Strong corrosion resistance, durability, high temperature resistance, high stability, and can be used for a variety of media;

    2. It has lower cost than pure gold and pure platinum anodes, but similar electrochemical performance;

    3. The over potential of oxygen desorption reaction is very high, while that of hydrogen desorption reaction is very low.

    4. It has the characteristics of high output current density, uniform conduction and low loss, and is suitable for making DSA insoluble anode.

    Proper use of platinum coated titanium electrode:


    1. When using the platinum coated titanium electrode, the existence of fluoride ions and "root" phosphate ions in the plating solution must be eliminated, and it must be confirmed that the platinum coated titanium electrode has no corrosive chemical composition before the platinum coated titanium electrode can be used safely. Otherwise, the base material at the bottom of the platinum coated titanium electrode will be seriously corroded, the platinum coating will fall off, and the service life will be shortened. Do not use hard chromium additives and recover industrial chromic anhydride containing fluoride ions.


    2. The best process shall be selected reasonably: the current density of platinum plated titanium electrode shall be less than 50 a/dm2, and the tank pressure shall be less than 10v, otherwise the service life will be affected, and the anode will be corroded, dissolved, and the coating will fall off in serious cases. The solid oxide shall not be produced during the anodic oxidation reaction process as far as possible to avoid the oxide thickening and passivation effect. The platinum plated titanium electrode has good conductivity.

    When the pressure in the tank is greater than 10V, the titanium surface in contact with the platinum coating starts to dissolve slightly. When the fuel tank pressure is 12V, it will completely collapse. After breakdown, the tank pressure we see can no longer be displayed at 12V, but only at about 11V. Therefore, for safe use, the battery pressure of platinum coated titanium electrode is set below 10V.


    3. In principle, the surface area of the cathode should be less than the effective anode area (i.e. the anode area below the liquid level). When the anode area is smaller than the cathode area, it should not be used, otherwise the anode is easy to be damaged and cannot be used again normally.


    4. When the plating tank impedance increases, the plating tank pressure will also increase. When the plating tank pressure exceeds 10V, the current should not be increased, but should be properly adjusted. For example, the current should be reduced by 10%, while the plating time should be extended by 10%.
