Titanium alloy has the characteristics of high temperature resistance, good performance, excellent corrosion resistance, light weight and compatibility with other metals. Therefore, it is widely used in the production of structural and non-structural parts of various advanced passenger aircraft. However, the thermal conductivity of titanium alloy is poor, and the phenomenon of sticking is easy to occur during cutting, which brings some troubles to the processing of titanium alloy workpiece manufacturers. Talk about the fire, combustion problems and preventive measures that may be brought about during the processing of titanium alloys.
Titanium metal is a non-self-igniting metal, whether it is a plate or a block, it is not easy to spontaneously combust, and it cannot spontaneously combust even when it is in powder form. However, titanium is a flammable metal, and sparks and heat generated during machining may also cause titanium plates and blocks to burn. Once a fire occurs, the fire is fierce, and the harm caused by the fire is similar to that of magnesium. In particular, powdered titanium has a very low ignition point, and a match can ignite it. When encountering some ignition sources (such as sparks and electric sparks generated during machining), it can directly combine with oxygen to burn. The reaction is slow at the beginning, and then spreads quickly from point to line to surface, and the temperature can rise to more than 1000 ℃ while emitting a scorching fire. When the powder is flying, it will explode when it encounters a fire source. Therefore, the combustion problems that may occur during the processing of titanium alloys and how to control them are very concerned by aircraft manufacturing and maintenance workers.
Safety measures during processing of titanium alloys:
(1) Use sharp slicing, master slicing rate, cutting time, and use suitable lubricating oil for cooling (mineral oil is the safest cutting coolant, do not use water-soluble raw solution) to ensure that no Enough heat to cause a fire to burn.
(2) The processing area and surrounding areas must be kept dry and low temperature; fire prevention facilities should be provided, and sufficient and unobstructed fireproof spaces and passages should be reserved.
(3) Do not place flammable materials around the processing area, and remove or isolate nearby flammable materials.
(4) No oxygen system or equipment is allowed near the operation site.
(5) Carry out wet polishing operation and select appropriate coolant, and use dust removal equipment to remove fine dust of titanium during dry polishing.
(6) Clean the operating machinery frequently, and dispose of the cutting debris as soon as possible to avoid the harm caused by the attachment of titanium scraps or powder.
